Photoshop Lightroom 4 now available
With all of the excitement around the Creative Cloud & Creative Suite 6 launch I wanted to reminder you that back in March we released version 4 of Photoshop Lightroom following a two month beta trial period which started in January. For anyone not familiar with Lightroom, its our professional photo management application used by photographers – both amateur and professional – to quickly import, manage, enhance and showcase their snaps.
With this latest upgrade, there are a raft of workflow improvements and features which nod to the increasing use of, and need to integrate, both still images and video within photography workflows. With new video capabilities increasingly being built into cameras, more and more photographers are finding they are expected to also have key video editing skills.
This means that today’s students will also be expected to have these skills when they enter the workplace, whether straight from school or after having completed their higher education. To make Lightroom 4 more accessible to a broader range of students and teachers, a Student & Teacher edition of the new software is available for £59.09 inc VAT, which is 50% less than previous versions of the product. If you want to learn more about how you can use Lightroom 4 in your lessons, then check out our series of how-to videos.

Muse Beta 6: new update available
A couple of weeks ago we released a new update to our Muse public beta software. From now on when you download the beta, you’ll have access to more than 80 new updates and performance enhancements all based on feedback we’ve had from the user community since the beta launched last summer.
In a nutshell, Muse is our latest Web design software which essentially lets you design and publish a HTML site without having to write the code. The use of tools such as Muse, and in fact technology across the board, should be encouraged in our Higher Education institutions.
It is important that young people today are given the opportunity to learn about technology and how it can be used to tell a story in more creative way, whether in the classroom or when they start their careers. Muse is just one way they can do this.
So what can you expect from our latest updates to Muse? The beta now includes autoscrolling, so when you drag an item to the edge of the view, the view automatically scrolls in that direction. Plus export and publish times have been improved so they’re now much quicker and easier. There’s loads more so check out our Muse Blog to get all the details.
If you want to learn more about how you can use Muse in your lecturers then it’s worth a visit to our site where you can download the beta for free, take a look through a gallery of Muse-created websites, and also access instructional tutorials.

Beta for Kinect for Windows SDK Now Available!
Today we are making available the beta for the Kinect for Windows SDK. Those of you who have been waiting in anticipation for this can download it here! The SDK includes device drivers for Kinect as well as APIs, device interfaces, installer documentation and other resource materials. The SDK is designed for academic researchers, developers and enthusiasts to take advantage of Kinect on the PC for creating incredible software projects utilizing natural user interface (NUI). The SDK gives developers access to key pieces of Kinect such as its audio technology, skeletal tracking, and system application programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor.
Since 9:30am (Pacific) this morning, Channel 9 has been doing a live broadcast on guidance on how to build applications for Kinect on the PC with the SDK. I suggest tuning in to the broadcast!
Back at MIX, we showed off Kinect on the PC being used to navigate the stars with the WorldWide Telescope. This is a good example of the experiences that can be developed on the PC with Kinect.
For more information on the Kinect for Windows SDK, I suggest reading this blog post from Steve Clayton on Next at Microsoft. Steve will also have another post up later today highlighting some of the things people have done over the last 24 hours with the SDK.

Windows 7 SP1 Available via WSUS
dear windows,
please use the same iconography across all future versions of your major platforms (windows, windows phone, xbox). please use the same concepts (pinning, hubs, collections [instead of libraries]) to define the same concept across these platforms. please stop wasting development time and resources creating multiple products with the same goal in mind (wmp, zune, wmc) also can be seen with the xbox and windows (windows media center vs. xbox dashboard), also can be seen with competing brands (games for windows vs. xbox [hmmm which one is actually succesful in the market?]). please stop ignoring other divisions good idea and "reinventing the wheel". please make your next generation of products (windows vnext, xbox, windows phone) feel like they each belong with the other. windows phone is the best to date example. would love to see windows and xbox rethought in the same fasion. you will probably ignore me though and instead think you have a better idea... and apple/google will continue to make the headlines and slowly creep up on that marketshare.
