Office Mobile for iPhone

Translate Request has too much data
Parameter name: request
Translate Request has too much data
Parameter name: request

Pat Fox is a senior director of product marketing in the Microsoft Office Division, focused on the Office apps.

We are excited to be adding even more value to our Office 365 subscriptions with the new Office Mobile for iPhone!  Office Mobile now enables iPhone users to access, view, and edit their Office documents on the go, similar to what is already preinstalled today on Windows Phone 8.  You can see the official announcement here.

I wanted to give you a little more detail behind Office Mobile for iPhone, and hopefully answer some questions you might have.

If you aren't already an Office 365 subscriber, you can visit www.office.com to learn more about Office 365 and sign up for a trial.  To get started, let's take a look at the set up experience.

Now let's take a closer look at some of the capabilities of Office Mobile.

When signing in to Office Mobile for iPhone, you can use either a Microsoft Account associated with your Office 365 subscription or your Organization Account if you are using Office 365 at work.  (See the most frequent questions below for the full list of eligible Office 365 subscriptions).  Don't worry if you have both types of accounts.  You can access all your cloud storage places, for example SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro, after you sign-in.

From the home page you can easily move between your recent documents, open any document from your cloud storage locations, create a new Office document, and update your settings.  Let's take a look at each area more in depth.

From the recent tab, the last documents you worked on from either your PC (running the new Office) or phone will automatically update here.  This is enabled by Office 365's roaming documents feature so that, whichever Office 365 device you are using, you always have the latest version and Office knows where you left off.

On the Open tab you can see all of your connected cloud storage locations and add additional locations, such as SkyDrive Pro or SharePoint sites.

The New tab lets you create a new Word or Excel document from your iPhone and provides some templates to get you started quickly.

Word is optimized for the iPhone Screen making your documents look great.  You can read, edit and create new Word documents.  Word supports Resume Reading so documents you open from SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro will resume where you left off from your other Office 365 devices.  From the top blue navigation bar you can go back to your documents list, use File Options, Editing Tools, and Viewing Tools.    When you first open a document you scan through the document and quickly make a comment or copy some of the text.

File Options gives you the choice to share via email or save the document to SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro.

Tap the Editing Tools to enter edit mode and get access to the most common formatting options.

The Viewing Tools helps you navigate the document outline and comments, handy for those long documents when you need to review just a particular section.

With Office Mobile, workbooks, worksheets, graphs, charts, and SmartArt graphics are beautifully scaled to fit your iPhone screen. You can create data-driven charts, utilize the AutoSum features as they report the numbers. Like Word, the Outline View allows you to jump to the tab and table of your choosing. You can read or add comments too.

Tabs at the bottom help you navigate between worksheets.

Viewing Tools let you sort, filter, and find so you can quickly navigate tables and organize the data to find insights.

Once you've filtered and sorted your data you can apply common functions to selected cells using the AutoSum feature.

With that same selected data, you can quickly create a chart.

You can format cells to clearly highlight the most important data.

Preparing for your upcoming presentation is now more convenient with Office Mobile for iPhone.  You can review your slides and edit speaker notes, move and hide slides, and make text edits directly from your phone.  In the navigation bar, the Slide Navigator replaces the Viewing Tools from Word and Excel.

In Portrait mode you can see your slides and notes, edit your speaker notes, and practice your presentation.

In Landscape mode swipe through your presentation.

Tap on the slide you want to edit, move, or hide to bring back the navigation bar and select the Editing Tools.

With the Slide Navigator, you can quickly jump to any slide.

The settings tab from the home page lets you add an identity for comments made on your iPhone and Reset Office.  Resetting Office returns the app to initial state and delete all of you documents and cloud storage locations.

If you're an Office 365 Home Premium subscriber, you can activate Office on multiple iPhones in your family.  You would first sign in with your Microsoft Account on each device to activate Office Mobile on that device.  Then you will "reset Office" to remove your account information and allow your family member to sign in with their Microsoft Account - so they can access, view, and edit Office documents from their SkyDrive.  This is how Office Mobile will become customized for each person in the family.

You can also access help documentation, see the version number, read the Terms of Service and Privacy policy, and select Improve Office Mobile settings.

We have been getting questions about Office Mobile, so I have aggregated some of the most frequent questions below.  Please let us know in comments if you have others, and we'll try to address the most common.

Q:  How do I get Office Mobile on my phone?

A:  To get Office Mobile for iPhone simply install "Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers" from the App Store.  If you have a Windows Phone 8, you already have the latest version of Office Mobile preinstalled.

Q:  Do I need an Office 365 subscription to use Office Mobile for iPhone?

A:  Yes, an Office 365 subscription or trial account is required to use the Office Mobile for iPhone app.  Office Mobile for Windows Phone does not require an Office 365 subscription.

Q:  How much does Office Mobile for the iPhone cost?

A:  There is no additional charge for Office 365 subscribers whose plans include Office Mobile.   See below for details of those plans.

Q:  What Office 365 subscription plans include Office Mobile?

A:  Any Office 365 subscription plan that includes the full Office desktop applications also include Office Mobile.  Specifically, these plans are:  Office 365 Home Premium, Office 365 Small Business Premium, Office 365 Midsize Business, Office 365 Enterprise E3 and E4, Office 365 Education A3 and A4, Office 365 ProPlus, and Office 365 University.  There are also Office 365 government plans that include Office Mobile. You will need to sign in to your Office 365 subscription on first run to activate Office Mobile.

Additionally, Office 365 trial subscriptions will activate Office Mobile, so if you'd like to try Office 365 and/or Office Mobile, please visit www.Office.com for information.

Q:  What are the requirements to use Office Mobile on the iPhone?

A:  There are two key requirements:

a.  First, you need an Office 365 subscription that includes the desktop Office client (see above for list).  After you download Office Mobile on your iPhone, just sign in with your Office 365 credentials to start your experience.

b.  Second, you need an iPhone 4, 4S, or 5, or iPod Touch 5th generation. They must be running iOS 6.1 or later.

Q:  Does Office Mobile work on iPad?

A:  We built Office Mobile for iPhone to ensure a great Office experience when using a small screen device, similar to Office Mobile for Windows Phone.  If you have an iPad, we recommend using Office Web Apps that provide the best Office experience on a tablet.  We have made great enhancements to Office Web Apps including an improved touch experience for tablet users.

Like all iPhone apps, Office Mobile can work on iPad, either small or "2X" scaled up, but you'll have a more satisfying experience using Office Web Apps.

Q:  What happens if I cancel my Office 365 subscription but I'm using Office Mobile on my iPhone?

A:  If your Office 365 subscription ends, you will no longer be able to access the Office Mobile app from your iPhone to view or edit your Office content.  You can reactivate Office Mobile by renewing your subscription and signing in with a valid username.  Your data is only removed from the phone when you uninstall Office Mobile.  Your Office content in SkyDrive will remain accessible via the web.

Q:  Why doesn't this include OneNote and Outlook?

A:  The OneNote app is already available for Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad and Android phones.

Outlook Mobile is exclusively available on Windows phones.  However, iPhone offers a native Exchange ActiveSync email experience in the email app.

Q:  In what languages or countries will you offer Office Mobile for iPhone?

A:  Office Mobile for iPhone will be available in 29 languages covering 135 markets.  The international rollout will occur over approximately 4-5 days.

We hope you will be delighted with this new release.  Please let us know what you like and what you'd like to see added in the comments below.

Review: DivX Stash stores Web videos for mobile viewing

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Keeping track of all the online videos you want to watch can be a challenge...especially if you're not always in front of your PC. Sometimes, you see a video while you're on your computer, but you just can't remember what or where it is by the time you launch the browser on your smartphone. Enter DivX Stash, introduced at Mobile World Congress. This free service helps you create a queue of videos that you can watch later, either on your PC or mobile device. It's a very handy tool, and one that works well—most of the time.

Once the browser add-on is installed, you'll see a "Stash It" button appear on compatible video sites.

To use DivX Stash, you start on your browser, preferably on a PC or Mac. You must log in with your Facebook account and install the browser extension or add-on to Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. You then surf the Web as usual. When you come across a video on a DivX Stash-supported site (including YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, Funny or Die, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, College Humor, and more) , you'll see a button underneath the video that says "Stash It." Clicking this adds the video to your Stash, which you can access via the Web on your computer or via mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. I tested it on my iPhone and iPad.

From your Stash, you can click a video title and watch the video within the DivX Stash interface. DivX Stash doesn’t download and store the videos offline. It simply stores the video URL and brings it up within its own app. That means you'll need an active data connection if you're using a smartphone or tablet, and spotty service will greatly impact the quality of the video you see.

In addition to the videos you stash, DivX Stash also creates a feed of all the videos found in your Facebook feed. These are all of the videos posted by your friends and made available to you on Facebook. It's nice to have them all in one scannable list, but it's unfortunate that you cannot search the list to find a specific video you may have seen. Instead, you have to scroll through the videos, which appear with those most recently posted near the top, to find what you're looking for.

That's a minor glitch, though. What's more unfortunate is the problem I had watching videos I'd stashed from Hulu. They played back fine on my PC, but when I tried to access them using the DivX Stash app on an iPhone, I was unable to do so, and saw only an error message that the video was not available on mobile devices. The folks at Rovi Corporation say this is due to the nature of Hulu and the fact that some of their videos are only available to paid users. I was unable to watch any video from Hulu on my iPhone, though, even content that was freely available on my PC. In future versions, the DivX Stash app should direct users to the Hulu Plus app, which will allow them to watch Hulu content on their mobile phone, the company says. But that will only help users who've paid for access to Hulu Plus.

Videos that you add to your Stash are automatically added to the list that appears on your mobile phone.

While DivX Stash can't offer an easy—or free—way to watch Hulu content on your smartphone, it does offer easy access to plenty of free video sources. If you're an online video junkie looking to go mobile, DivX Stash could be your new best friend.

Note: The Download button on the Product Information page takes you to the vendor's site, where you must log in to use the software.

On the move: new SharePoint mobile offers

Rule 1, positie 9015.

Work is no longer 9-5, nor confined to a single location. People are out and about more than ever and need to be able to access their documents and data whenever and wherever they are. As we shared at SharePoint Conference 2013 in November, we've been working hard on new SharePoint mobile apps so you can access your information from a variety of devices.

I'm excited to share an update on the progress we've made-- from the new native apps and how SharePoint document access appears in the native Windows phone Office hub to investments in cross-device access across multiple browsers and a new backend feature called device channels.

We're introducing two new apps across multiple devices: the SharePoint newsfeed app and the SkyDrive pro app.

The SharePoint newsfeed app.The SharePoint newsfeed app-- available now for Windows phone and iOS mobile devices-- is the best way to stay connected and be productive while on the go. You can use the SharePoint news feed app to interact with your organization's SharePoint social network, letting you:

Create new status posts, use #hashtags, @mention direct to a colleagueAdd comments to ongoing discussions, read and 'like"your colleagues' postsUpload picturesand more...

Now you can try the new app, installed directly on your device. The apps will work against a Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint online account or a properly configured on premise SharePoint Server.

The new SharePoint newsfeed app on a Windows phone.

The new SharePoint newsfeed app for iOS - left image shows app displayed on an iPad, right image shows app displayed on an iPhone.

The SkyDrive pro app.As you may know, SkyDrive Pro is cloud storage that organizations Commission of for employees as part of their SharePoint 2013 on-premises and / or Office Online 365 SharePoint deployments.

This personal file storage service is for business use, and users can store, access and synchronize their files using the SkyDrive Pro client software.  Users are not limited to synchronizing their staff docs-- they can sync any document library to which they have permission (for document libraries where sync is turned on).

As we shared at SharePoint Conference, we're both working on native SkyDrive pro apps for Windows 8 and iOS, will be coming in summer of 2013?? there, too, is a Windows desktop client that ships with Office 2013-- and soon this "folder sync" technology will ship as a free, standalone installable client. In addition, the capabilities already come natively in Windows phone (more on that below in the Office hub section of this post).

You can use the SkyDrive pro app for Windows 8 and iOS to:

View documents in your SkyDrive Pro folderSelect specific content to take offline when you travelUpload new contentCreate new folders and organize

Here on the SharePoint team, we've been collaborating with the Windows phone team for some time now. As a result, Windows phone 8 comes with an updated Office hub, in which SharePoint provides the embedded SkyDrive Pro technology so you can have access to your documents wherever you are.

You can use the Windows phone Office hub to:

Find documents, open them and make last-minute changesQuickly find and open documents you've recently used start new documents

Windows phone 8 Office hub. Note:  In the graphic above under 'places', 'Mark Kashman' represents a SharePoint online hosted SkyDrive Pro folder.

At its core, SharePoint is all about dynamic sites and the various business solutions you can easily configure through out-of-the-box templates. The new SharePoint user interface is a refreshing, clean experience with easy drag and drop, quicker page loads and a focus on true accessibility using WCAG guidelines to make SharePoint perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

Touch what a key area of investment across all of the products in the new Office, and SharePoint is no exception. For SharePoint, we focused on building large touch targets as you filter and navigate and even work with documents. The Office Web apps team so focused on making the browser-based Office experience accessible across devices, big and small.

SharePoint is now more touch friendly across all types of devices

Specific to the small screens found in today's smartphones, we built native mobile viewing experiences-- turning your pages into HTML5 app-like solutions. Mobile view mode, the design elements are stripped away so that the essence of distinct tasks are front and center-- like working with a document, viewing the full timeline of a project and adding a new item to a list.

SharePoint mobile browser activities (left to right): document libraries, timeline and creating a new task.

See the lists of supported mobile device browsers SharePoint 2013

In support of bring-your-own device (BYOD), SharePoint now enables unique curated experiences via the new device channel feature. This is ideal for more complex SharePoint sites where you create a single site and author content for that site, but map the content to use different master pages and style sheets that are specific to a device or group of devices that you choose-- rendering the best experience possible for the variety of large and small screens connecting to your company portal. SharePoint helps by auto-detecting the users' device and serving up your custom templates. The design work is typically done by a Web developer or designer. And uploading and enabling the various templates is an easy IT per task. Note that device channels are only available for publishing sites.

Life happens, and the latest SharePoint mobile investments make it easier for you to access the content you need wherever you are across a variety of devices. Try Office 365 today and test out the mobile SharePoint capabilities.

Is the Office Mobile? Why it feels different on the Nokia Lumia 900

Office Mobile on Nokia Lumia 900It is the coolness factor. We already know that the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows phone it has. It is beautifully designed in black and striking cyan, and it has a large 4.3 inch AMOLED screen (a display technology that makes a phone screen brighter and reduces the reflection of sunlight).

But here at the Office team, we think that the Lumia 900 cool the Office hub on a Windows phone makes also cooler. The hub is the place to go to work in Office mobile apps specifically for your mobile phone. You can check your notes and documents, last-minute changes to make or create new documents in mobile versions of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Then you can save your files on SkyDrive and pick up where you left off when you back at the computer.

Office Mobile comes on all Windows phones, but the Lumia-900 makes it seem:

Office applications are already mobile for small screens, but the Lumia 900 4.3-inch screen gives you a little more room. It doesn't hurt if you do things such as sorting and filtering of numbers in tables.Since it has connected network to a super fast 4 g LTE, is done by e-Mails read or retrieving text & tables in the network of the company just.

Here are some places you can learn like Office Mobile you from anywhere can work from:

OneNote mobile apps work great with OneNote Web App

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Today, the OneNote team announced an exciting new offering:  OneNote Mobile for Android is now available in the Android Market app store!

OneNote mobile apps are available on a wide variety of platforms, including Windows Phone 7, iPhone, iPad, and now Android. They all work together with OneNote on your desktop and OneNote Web App in your browser.

Once you've gotten started with OneNote on your device, you can log in to SkyDrive to see a list of your notes, or view and edit them on the web. You can even share notes from your phone with friends, classmates, colleagues, or co-workers.

Screenshot of Sharing OneNote in SkyDriveTo share a note, just right-click on the file in SkyDrive and select "Share." This is one of my favorite features, because with one click you can share notes you've taken in classes, for travel plans, recipes, to-do lists, or even a shopping list, like the one we showcased at CES last month.

 Thanks,

Incorporating Tablets and Mobile Devices Into Your Creative Process

Before the announcement of our Adobe Touch Apps, we asked our Creative Suite Ambassador Group* how they use tablets or mobile devices during the creative process, and what they hope to see from tablets and mobile devices in the future. We wanted to share some responses below, and would love for you to weigh in by leaving your thoughts in the comments below.  Also, check out the video above of Creative Director Brian Yap talking about how he sees tablet apps enhancing his workflow.

“I use my phone to take pictures of things that are interesting, creative, or inspiring. This way I have an ever-changing source of inspiration in the form of a photo album. When I purchase an iPad I plan to use it to sketch out quick ideas and rough drafts when I’m on the go or away from my workspace.”

- Joe Weber

“I use my iPad mostly for research. I’ll search the web, and view content related to my project. I use my iPad… [to explore] how content is designed, and how well the interface and interactivity has been developed for the user.”

- Joseph Caserto

“I’ve recently displayed my portfolio on my iPad. Fabulous! When I teach I use the iPad to often draft class notes, research on the web [and] test out demonstration ideas.”

- Joy Makon

“I keep a portfolio of images of my work in my media folder on the BlackBerry so I can show potential clients my work or take them directly to a website I have designed.”

- Cathy Rudd

So, how do you use tablets and mobiles in the creative process? Which Adobe Touch Apps are you looking forward to exploring?

*Note: Our Creative Suite Ambassador Group is currently a closed community. We will evaluate future opportunities to open the group. For those interested in joining, please stay tuned for more updates on group openings.
