Successfully moving a company's IT assets to the cloud requires thoughtful planning, alignment among stakeholders, and a thorough review of current and future technology needs. To support companies with more than 25 employees through this process, Microsoft provides a proven methodology - the Office 365 Customer Decision Framework. This approach is fully explained in a free whitepaper titled "Evaluating Microsoft Office 365 in the Enterprise: Capability and Technical Fit Assessment."

The Capability and Technical Fit Assessment is a three-stage process that includes: a Technical Evaluation, Solution Alignment Workshop, and Migration Due Diligence. For each of these steps, the whitepaper provides: its purpose and benefit, recommended participants, technical briefing format, and outcome. A high level overview is also shown in the chart below:

Office 365 is a set of highly secure, cloud-based tools. It includes Microsoft SharePoint Online for collaboration and document sharing, Microsoft Exchange Online for email, and Microsoft Lync Online for instant messaging and web conferencing.
