Elgato EyeConnect

Elgato is mostly known for its line of television tuners, DVRs and video encoders for various Apple products, but they also have a pretty good home media management software app called EyeConnect. It works very well on a Mac and with their popular EyeTV television tuner and DVR, but there isn’t any Windows or Linux compatibility, no access to internet content and tech support is a little weak. Therefore, it lands in fifth place on our list of media servers.

Ease of Use:

EyeConnect will access all the various videos, movies, TV shows, photos and music on your Mac, and will stream it effortlessly to the compatible devices. If you’re using iTunes or iPhoto, it can access them, as well. If you have any EyeTV recordings, you can stream your videos, music and content from your Mac to compatible wifi-enabled devices.

Video and Sound Quality:

Purchase or Rent Content:

Play Digital Media Content:

You also don’t need to rearrange and re-organize your content from the specific folders you may have it in, such as iTunes or Amazon MP3. EyeConnect will find only the video, audio and image content, and you can then stream it.

Internet Content:

However, if you’re watching a YouTube video, or listening to music you like while on your Mac, there may be an option to purchase or legally download the content. From there, you can stream to other devices.

Help & Support:

We emailed their tech support with a couple of questions, and they got back to us within a couple of hours. All our questions were answered thoroughly, so you know you’re getting expert advice.
