How to use the tool feather of Photoshop

The tool feather of Photoshop is one of the best creative tools in their arsenal. But most designers avoid using that they do simply not understand the concept of what it can do. I use pen tool for many different reasons, and in this tutorial I will be you showing some ways to use it to your advantage.

Basic concepts

The mechanisms of the tool-based pen is simply that you create two points (called anchor points) and Photoshop to draw a path between them. The path can then be used for the drawing, or, if the path is a loop (a series of anchor points to end at the same point) it can be used to create entire shapes.

Anchor: anchor points are what determines where each path starts and ends. Consider them an image of point-to-point that you used to do when you were a child. To create a path you set anchors in various positions, link together to turn.

Path: Path is the line between two anchor points that draws to the shape or line you are trying to create. The form of paths depends on the position of its two anchor points and the position of its handle.

Handle: The handle is used to bend the paths. Photoshop will always draw a straight path perfectly between two anchor points, so if you want to bend the path you must move the handle accordingly. Consider as a lever. The later and more than one angle put you on the handle more it effects the curvature of the trajectory.

If you hold the mouse over the pen tool, that we have a range of tools Sub.

The pen tool is the really the only selection never make off the coast of this selection. If you are careful in the development of your paths and take your time you will not likely need to others.

The freeform pen tool simply acts as the Lasso tool and creates a path across where will the mouse pointer.

As you will see that this creates messy incorrect paths and for so long that I used Photoshop I've never used this tool.

Add Anchor Point tool is exactly what it says on the Tin. You can use it to add Anchor Points further along any path you've drawn.

The tool remove anchor point simply removes any any any anchor Point, you click on.

The Point conversion tool simply adds handles to existing Anchor Points by clicking and dragging.

With the help of paths to create lines

Draw a simple path, such as a letter s. You would begin by simple are an anchor point. Then place a second anchor, but by hold both the mouse button down and made drag the elbow to her. Then, place the third anchor, and drag in the opposite direction.

It is simply a path. It is not something which will be Visual on our final image. To make it into something solid, we caress the path. To do this we must first choose something to it with strokes. Choose the Brush tool and set your brush to a brush hard 5px red color.

Then choose the pen tool again, Ctrl-click/Right-Click the image and choose the path of the stroke cerebral.

In the window of stroke path, you will see two options. Combo box for the tool you want to use on selected, path and that the check box simulate pressure. Option to simulate pressure add of candles at the beginning and the end of your path. By choosing the brush in the menu you tell Photoshop to fill the path with the brush hard 5px comes to create. It is obvious that if you use another other than the Brush tool, you would simply set the options for this particular tool before executing the function from the stroke path.

Creation of forms tool pen

To create a form, we need to pull some Anchor Points, as we did before, this time with that we must finish on the same point we started.

Now we have our form we must make a selection, if we were to try to fill this now we would simply fill the entire background. Choose window > paths and click on the Load path as A Selection button.

This will convert the path into a selection. You will see by the visibility of the so-called "walking ants."

It is now a selection, you can fill with a color or a gradient and then can begin to apply Layer Styles as it is now a solid object in our document and is no longer merely a selection or a path.

Complex shapes in drawing

To draw complex shapes, it is important to learn how to modify the handles of your route. If we draw a curve, Photoshop automatically adds a handle and the second Anchor Point for the curve may be continued smoothly in the third point. But sometimes we do not want to continue the curve. To modify the handles we hold down the Alt key and or reposition the handle, or click to anchor to remove it completely.

This shows the itinerary that will take the path between the three points if we simply nothing to handle.
This shows the road when we hold the Alt key and move the handle.
This shows the road when we hold the Alt key and click to anchor medium to remove the handle.

This allows to draw more complex shapes.

The tool using pen to add / to subtract from selection

When complex selections, we can use pen tool to adjust the edges with precision.

With the selected pen tool draw your way on the remaining leg. Choose window > paths.

Now when we choose the Load path as A Selection button hold us down the Alt key first to bring up the selection of Options.

Make sure that you add to the area of selection selected and click OK. This will convert the path and add it to our selection.

To subtract from the selection do us everything exactly the same, but it is obvious that we check the subtraction of the selection instead of Add.

Now you have the knowledge, embrace the pen tool. Make more specific selections and their own work.
